RAILWAT SLEEPERS // LAS TRAVIESAS FERROVIARIAS
The wooden railway sleepers allow the rails to be kept parallel and fixed, so that the width of the track is not lost and allows the whole to be maintained with a certain elasticity when the trains pass. The sleepers are obtained from trees such as pine, beech, oak or quebracho. Thanks to a treatment using tars, called "creosoted", they can serve for more than 50 years.
When they fulfill their functionality, they are still used for other uses, such as gardening or the construction of walkways on the beaches. Once they deteriorate due to the loss of their main structure, they are recycled and possibly give us heat or green energy.
These photographs were obtained on June 6, 2023, in the renewal of the road from Torralba del Moral to Soria (Spain). The stacked sleepers, their shapes, textures, colors and position convey warm and pleasant sensations.
Las traviesas ferroviarias de madera, permiten mantener los carriles paralelos y fijados, para que no se pierda el ancho de la vía y permita mantener el conjunto con cierta elasticidad al paso de los trenes.
Las traviesas están obtenidas de árboles como el pino, haya, roble o quebracho. Gracias a un tratamiento mediante alquitranes, llamado "creosotado", pueden dar servicio durante más de 50 años.
Cuando cumplen su funcionalidad, aún son utilizadas para otros usos, como son la jardinería o la construcción de paseos en las playas. Una vez que estas entran en deterioro por pérdida de su estructura principal, se reciclan y posiblemente nos den calor o energía verde.
Estas fotografías fueron obtenidas el día 6 de junio de 2023, en la renovación de vía en Torralba del Moral a Soria (España). La traviesas apiladas, sus formas, sus texturas, colores y posición transmiten sensaciones cálidas y agradables.
